'ON WATER' Boat Handling Tuition
The following courses are available on a monthly basis.

Yachting Australia Recreational Boat Operator

    8 hours boat operating theory

   8 hours "on water" boat handling

                 instruction

   BOAT LICENCE EXAMINATION

This training course is recognised for licensing purposes and the Certificate is part of a National qualification scheme administered by the Yachting Australia and involves 'ON WATER' hands on practical training at an “all weather” safe boating harbour.

This Boating Victoria (part of Yachting Victoria) course is approved by Marine Safety Victoria.

Successful completion of this course enables you to take the certificate that you receive, straight to Vic Roads to obtain your Victorian Boating Licence without further testing.

The course is suitable for all ages (from 12 years upwards) and all levels of boating experience.
The aim is to create a sound theoretic knowledge of boating, and develop the practical skills of hands on safe boating.

Course Length: 2 days (1 day theory and 1 day practical 'on water'). Total of 16 hours.

DAY 1:
Theory sessions covering – Basic Safety, State Laws, Engine and Boat Maintainance, Safety Equipment, Weather, Collision Regulations, Buoyage Systems, Trip Preparation and Emergency Procedures.

DAY 2:
Practical ‘on water’ boating activities – With hands on manoeuvring in confined areas, coming alongside, berthing, holding station, anchoring, high speed boat operation and man overboard drills.

Yachting Australia National Power Boat Handling Course

'ON WATER' hands on practical training at an “all weather” safe boating harbour.

This course is required when obtaining accreditation as Instructor, coach or Race Officer. Successful students can receive MSV Certificates for power boat licensing.

A more advanced course, this offers an extra theory day for more in depth studying in:

• Complex safety situations
• Basic navigation
• Use of radios
• Use of GPS
• Weather systems

Plus all the topics in the Recreational Power Boat Operator Course but in more depth.

Course Length: 3 days (2 days theory / or 2 nights and 1 day, plus 1 day practical 'on water'). Total 25 hours.

"MARINE  RADIO  COURSES"

Available  "at your Club"  at reduced rates

Marine Radio Operators Certificate

All operators of HF and VHF marine radios must hold a Marine Radio Operators Certificate.

This includes all recreational boats, fishing boats and club rescue and patrol boats using VHF radios.  This certificate is required for offshore sailing with HF/MF radois,   charter boats and overseas yacht charter holidays.

The course covers all the topics required to sit the examination which is then forwarded to the Australian Maritime College in Tasmania.

Topics covered include:

• GMDSS systems and equipment
• Use of MF/HF and VHF radio telephony
• Understanding and use of DSC facilities
• Maintenance of marine radio equipment
• Understanding of regulations applicable to the use of ship marine radios
• Knowledge of Australian Marine Search and Rescue system

The cost of this course includes a hard copy of the Marine Radio Operators Handbook ($36.00) and the examination fee of $59.00.

Course Length: 8 hours.
